Particle track images from LHC

Collisions involving two beams of particles have not yet begun at CERN's LHC, but until they do here are some images of beams colliding with the detectors and some simulation images...





Some of the first images from CMS. The tracks are the debris of particles picked up by the detectors calorimeters and muon chambers after the beam was steered into the tungsten collimator

A simulation of a collision producing a Higgs boson. Two protons collide at 14 TeV creating a Higgs boson that then quickly decays into four muons. The red tracks are the muons
